AMA PDX Wins 5 Chapter Excellence Awards
Each year, professional AMA chapters from around the nation apply to the Chapter Excellence Awards (CEAs). We are proud to announce that we have won 5 Chapter Excellence Awards for the 2019–2020 Board Year! Keep reading to learn how AMA PDX accomplished this.
A look back at the 2019–2020 AMA PDX board year
Looking back, the 2019–2020 board year was a year of growth and achievement for AMA PDX. In July 2019 we began our 2019–2020 AMA PDX chapter year. Our team worked diligently to create a Strategic Plan that aligned with the goals our chapter wanted to achieve, as well as stretch goals. Committees used this as a guide for making decisions and planning programs throughout the year. Our theme for the year was ‘leveling up’ to encompass building on all that was established in the year prior. Looking back, I’m thrilled to say that we did just that, and even more!
Achievements included hosting a successful regional retreat, focusing on establishing DEI initiatives for AMA PDX, achieving unprecedented attendance at our Marketing Excellence (MAX) Awards, adding new members-only benefits, revamping our social media and website, creating a monthly newsletter, establishing new and fantastic partnerships, supporting 6 non-profits with our AMA PDX Agency program, launching a virtual informational interview program, donating over $2,600 back to our nonprofit community, and even ending the year with an impressive profit!
What are the CEAs, exactly?
Established in 1974, the CEAs are a way for AMA National to recognize AMA professional chapters for their outstanding achievements. In addition to recognizing the Chapter of the Year, the CEA program provides other chapters with an opportunity to highlight their commitment to excellence in leadership, membership, programming, and communications. The entry form includes the following sections:
Leadership
Finance
Membership
Programming
Communications
Outreach
Previous awards for AMA PDX include the 2013–2014 Leadership Excellence Award as well as the 2018-2019 Membership Special Merit Award.
This CEA seems like a lot of work. Why do we do it?
The CEAs are a lot of work, and so is the submission paperwork; it’s a massive document that requires each member on the Board of Directors to pour their heart and soul into it while revisiting their accomplishments and challenges. Think about it like a snapshot of our chapter year; something we can look back on in years to come as a historical resource for future boards. It also gives our chapter a basis for creating future Strategic Plans, like the one we created for the 2020–2021 board year, learning from last year’s results to make our chapter better for years to come.
