Dara Royer is passionate about building and growing mission-driven brands. As an Emmy and AP award-winning television journalist and successful fundraiser, Royer has led high-performing teams to exceptional success. Royer’s influence extends to trade journals who have called on her as a philanthropic expert. Royer was also invited to be a keynote speaker at the 2015 national AMA Conference. Previous to Mercy Corps, Royer served as VP of Brand Marketing for ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
At Mercy Corp Royer is responsible for fundraising, global marketing and brand stewardship. Under Royer’s leadership, Mercy Corps had its single most successful year and fundraising rose by 19%, or $10 million, over the past 3 years. Media coverage saw an increase of 93% in quantity and 91% in quality (top-tier and substantial length) over the past 3 years. Using only a small in-house creative team, the organization created an accessible and inspiring brand positioning: Together, a better world is possible.
She creates an environment where exploration and experimentation are welcome and encouraged. “Progress, not perfection” and “It’s a marathon, not a sprint” are her two guiding mantras that keep us focused on what’s possible, inspired to test our ideas and stretch our skills. As team captain, Royer teaches us to say “no” to the proverbial rabbit holes that distract us from our mission; as coach, she strives to ensure we see a misstep as an opportunity to try a different approach.
